Diamond Décor is a painting and decorating company based in Suffolk, and is the brainchild of Carla Ross, a female painter and decorator!

Carla has three children, and with her youngest starting primary school, was looking to return to work. However, she didn’t really have a career to return too, and was looking for an exciting opportunity and challenge to move forward in a new direction. Carla thought about what she enjoyed doing and looked into the pros and cons of retraining. Whatever avenue she chose to follow would also need flexibility for the children, so self-employment seemed to be the best route to go. And, painting and decorating seemed to tick all those boxes for her.

“I wanted to inspire my children, show them it's never too late to learn something new, I wanted them to be proud of me, as well as giving them abetter life.” Says Carla. “I also, to inspire other women and mothers too! “Only about 14% of the construction industry is made up of women! And a mere two per cent of those women workers are in the manual trades. We are slowly seeing more ladies joining the industry but would love it to be more.“Some clients may feel more comfortable with a lady in their homes. For example, a single mother or an elderly person, Diamond Décor is giving them the option to choose. If by reading this I can inspire one lady to give something new a try, and that it is possible, then that’s fantastic”.Carla applied for a full-time college course to do her city and guilds level 2 and then level 3 in painting and decorating. She studied at West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds.

“I could have just picked up a paint brush and advertised as many do, but I wanted to be confident in myself, and my work, by insuring I was trained properly, fully qualified and offering the best service I could to my customers.”

Carla is very proud to offer a dustless sanding system. This electric sander comes with an extractor and this reduces the messy dust that comes from filler and paint with preparation work.
